Managing Articles

Layout View

Each page of your website is made up of one or more Articles.  When you are logged in, you can see an Edit and a Photo link at the bottom of each article.  To rearrange articles on a page choose Layout This Page from the Admin Menu.

The list on the left shows every article in your website, in descending order of the date each was last saved.  The list header shows what each piece of information is.  If an article does not have a title, three dots are shown in place of the title.

The Placements area shows the code of the page where the article is displayed, as well as its order number on that page.  If the page is placed on more than one page, then all placements are shown.  If the article is not visible on any page (because it is not placed anywhere or is hidden where it's placed) the Placements area is coloured orange.  The area is coloured green for one visible placement, blue for two, and purple for three or more.  In addition, a green checkmark is show for every visible placment, and a red x shown for every hidden placement.

The list on the right shows the articles on the page you're working with.  Articles that are hidden on this page are shown with a grey background on the title.  This is where you can arrange the articles on this page.   When you are finished, click Save This Layout to save your changes, or you can click Cancel at any time to exit without saving.

Change the Order of Articles

In the right-hand column, drag an article to the spot it should go.

Add an Article to a Page

Drag an article from the left side to the right, and put it in the order you want.

Hide an Article on This Page

Click the Hide button beside the article you want to hide.  The text on the button will change to Show.  You can click this button again to show the article if you change your mind.

When you hide an article, it remains part of the page, but isn't displayed.

Remove an Article from This Page

Click the Take Off button beside the article you want to remove. The text on the button will change to Put Back.  You can click this button again to keep the article on this page if you change your mind.

When you remove an article, it is no longer part of the page.

Save the Layout

When you are finished, click Save This Layout to save your changes, or you can click Cancel at any time to exit without saving.

When the layout is saved, the articles are re-numbered.  Hidden articles are given Order Number zero, and visible articles are numbered by ten's starting with 10.

Go to the page where you want to place the article.  Choose New Article from the Admin menu.

The Add a New Article Form

Title:  This is the article title, which is displayed at the top of the article (obviously).  An article doesn't have to have a title - for example, the first article on a page may not need a title.  If you don't give the article a title, be sure to use the Note field to put some information about the article - so you can identify it in lists and such.

Note:  This field is "for office use only" and not shown to site visitors.

Expiry Date:  In Layout view, an article that is past its expiry date will show with a different colour.  You can leave this field blank.

Content:  See the section on Editing Content for more information about using the Editor.
